German

I made up my mind pretty quickly about which language I wanted to study in college. Russian's cool and all, but as I mentioned earlier, it wouldn't be useful around here. Neither would German, but here's where some fun facts about my family background come from!

My mother's side of the family used to all be bilingual in German and English, until my grandma came along. Because of the time that she was growing up in, her parents didn't really want her to know German. They also wanted a language that they could use to talk secretly, so they just never spoke in German until she was older and wouldn't be able to pick up the language. I think it's kind of a shame, because if she knew it, I would too right now, and so would my sister, and my mom, so on, so forth.

Because I'm half German, I've decided it's a good language for me. My interest was sparked at a state choir camp, where we went over a song in German. It's a LOT easier to pronounce than French, in my opinion. Something about it is just...interesting.

So, there you go. I wanna learn German really well and pass it onto my children to keep our German-ness going. That's about it.
