I made up my mind pretty quickly about which language I wanted to study in college. Russian's cool and all, but as I mentioned earlier, it wouldn't be useful around here. Neither would German, but here's where some fun facts about my family background come from!
My mother's side of the family used to all be bilingual in German and English, until my grandma came along. Because of the time that she was growing up in, her parents didn't really want her to know German. They also wanted a language that they could use to talk secretly, so they just never spoke in German until she was older and wouldn't be able to pick up the language. I think it's kind of a shame, because if she knew it, I would too right now, and so would my sister, and my mom, so on, so forth.
Because I'm half German, I've decided it's a good language for me. My interest was sparked at a state choir camp, where we went over a song in German. It's a LOT easier to pronounce than French, in my opinion. Something about it is just...interesting.
So, there you go. I wanna learn German really well and pass it onto my children to keep our German-ness going. That's about it.

Language
Languages are weird. It all started out with Latin, and it just kinda went haywire from there. How did it get split apart into so many different languages? How did they all change so much from Latin?
Even though they're weird, I love them a lot. My sister was originally studying in the medical area, and was convinced to change her major to French by her professor. I don't think she regrets it at all. She's kinda rubbed off on me a bit, and I want to study a language in college too, along with music. The thing is...I can't make up my mind. For a while, I wanted to learn Russian. I think it was because the alphabet looks cool, but now I'm realizing that it wouldn't be that useful unless I went to Russia to teach English. That would be fun, but I don't know how I would feel permanently moving to another country. I feel like I'd have to start life all over again in a way, and I would really miss everybody. The thing is that there's really not that much need to know Russian in America, and as a result, it's not really taught in high schools. I guess I could learn German, since I'm half German and stuff. But then again, not many people speak German here. I know there's a couple areas where there's a lot of people who are bilingual in German and English, but I don't know. Am I ranting? I feel like I'm ranting.
Sigh. I should have just payed attention in Spanish.
